Gifted & Talented

Here at Westside School District we serve gifted students in a variety of ways:

  • Kindergarten -2nd Grade: All students are served through Whole Group Enrichment.  They receive 30 minutes of services a week, where they participate in enrichment activities that help in the identification process.
  • 3rd Grade - 6th Grade: Identified students are served through pull-out services.  These services are 150 minutes as week, and allow the students to participate in activities that challenge them further, as well as constructively build areas that they are weak in.
  • 7th Grade -12th Grade: Identified students are served 30 minutes monthly, as well as everyday in their classrooms, through differentiation of classroom curriculum.  They are also encouraged to take Pre-AP and AP classes.
  • Referrals: Referrals are accepted at any time.  If you have any questions please contact Lakyn Robinson

Definition of Giftedness:
"The term 'gifted and talented,' when used with respect to students, children or youth, means students, children or youth who give evidence of high achievement capability in areas such as intellectual, creative, artistic, or leadership capacity, or in specific academic fields, and who need services or activities not ordinarily provided by the school in order to fully develop those capabilities." (Marland, 1971)
